The ICGNMD is currently recruiting a new team member to work at the UCL Institute of Neurology in London.

About the ICGNMD:

The International Centre for Genomic Medicine in Neuromuscular Diseases (ICGNMD) is a 5 year (2019-2024), £5m Strategic Award funded by the UK Medical Research Council (MRC). We have established formal links to 14 Centres across Turkey, Brazil, South Africa, Zambia, India and the UK.

We are developing a transcontinental genomics research and capacity-building partnership in genomic medicine by:

     Growing our ICGNMD international cohort participant database with detailed phenotypic and genetic data;

      Using data to (i) build “trial-ready” international cohorts, and (ii) undertake collaborative research to increase the number of neuromuscular disease patients able to get an accurate genetic diagnosis; and

     Growing clinical capacity in neuromuscular diseases by training the ICGNMD’s cohort of clinical academic researchers.

Ultimately, our goal is to improve health outcomes for people with muscle wasting neuromuscular diseases.

Our new post:

A critical component of the ICGNMD is genetic testing of international cohort participants, followed by interpretation of results. A range of genetic tests are planned, ranging from single gene tests (e.g. for Spinal Muscular Atrophy, SMA), to arrays and whole exome and genome sequencing.

We are looking for a Research Fellow to undertake a combination of laboratory genetic testing and informatics analysis. The post-holder will develop and implement protocols for, and interpret results from, genetic tests for a range of rare neuromuscular diseases alongside interpreting and analysing high-throughput genetic test results.  They will be responsible for the effective and timely delivery of robust ICGNMD research data.

While a mix of laboratory and informatics experience is desirable, training and support in one of these areas is available to motivated and otherwise outstanding candidates. This post may be of particular interest to clinical scientists and experienced post-doctoral researchers who would like to expand their informatics skills in a research laboratory setting.
