こんにちは！Team WADA 学生メンバー副代表の小林優希です。

「アメリカで医師として活躍したい！」
そう思ってはいたものの、USMLEの勉強方法も分からないし、一緒に頑張れる仲間もいない。そんなときに出会ったのが チームWADA でした。

今回は、そんな私が所属するチームWADAの魅力と、私自身のこれからの目標についてお話ししていきます。少しでも皆さんに「チームWADAっていいな！」って思ってもらえたら嬉しいです。

◆ チームWADAってどんな団体？

チームWADAは、海外で活躍する医療従事者の情報をリアルタイムで発信する NPO法人 です。学生メンバーはなんと 200人以上います！

メンバーには、アメリカやヨーロッパなどの海外の医学部に通っている学生も多く、彼らから直接「リアルな医学部事情」を聞くことができちゃいます。国内では得られない知識が転がっていて、自分の視野が広がるのを日々感じています。

◆ 担当している企画のご紹介

今年度、私は2つの役割を担っています！

①【Let’s share our USMLE journey】企画運営

このイベントでは、USMLEに合格した先輩方が、どんな風に勉強を進めていたのか、何を工夫していたのかを語ってくれる超貴重な発表会です。

発表者の多くは、チームWADA内のUSMLE“ガチ”グループ出身でここでは2週間に1回、自分の進捗をZoomで報告し合っています。真剣だからこそ、仲間の存在が励みになります。そして、合格した先輩たちがまた私たちを支えてくれ、まさに “チーム” の力を実感しています。

②【名簿係として新規メンバーの窓口に】

もう一つの役割は、「名簿係」です。
新しくチームWADAに入ったメンバーの最初の窓口になる役割です。なので、これから入会する方は、何か質問があればぜひ気軽に私に連絡してくださいね

◆ 自分のUSMLEへの挑戦

現在、私は USMLE Step1 の受験を目指して本格的に勉強中で合格を目指してコツコツ進めています。

正直、英語には苦手意識があるので、勉強は楽しいことばかりではありません。でも、それでも続けられているのは、一緒に頑張っている仲間や、努力を惜しまない先輩方の存在があるからです。私にもできるかもしれないと思わせてくれる環境が、ここにはあると感じています。

◆ 副代表としてのこれからの目標

学生メンバーの一員として、「英語が苦手」「海外なんて無理かも」と思っている人に向けて挑戦するチャンスがあることを伝えていきたいと思います。

特に、私のように 日本育ちで英語に不安がある人に寄り添った企画や、臨床留学のリアルや、初めの一歩をどう踏み出すかを共有していく場を作ってみたいと思っています。

英語初心者でも、海外を目指していいと実感してもらえる1年にしていきたいと思います！

I’m Yuki Kobayashi, the Vice Student Representative of Team WADA.

“I want to become a doctor and work in the U.S.!”
This is always my dream, but I didn’t know how to study for the USMLE, and I had no one to study with. That’s when I found Team WADA.

Today, I’d like to share what makes Team WADA so special, and talk a little about my own goals moving forward. I hope by the end, you’ll think “Team WADA sounds awesome!” too!

◆ What is Team WADA?

Team WADA is an NPO that shares real-time information about healthcare professionals working abroad. There are now over 200 student members!

Many of them are studying medicine overseas in places like the U.S. and Europe, so we get to hear firsthand what medical school is like abroad. Every day, I learn something new that I wouldn’t have encountered otherwise, and I truly feel like my perspective is expanding.

◆ Projects I’m Working On

This year, I’m taking on two main roles:

① Let’s Share Our USMLE Journey — Event Organizer

In this event, senior members who have passed the USMLE share their study methods and tips.
Most of them were part of our “hardcore” USMLE group in Team WADA. In that group, we check in every two weeks over Zoom to share our study progress.
Having such dedicated peers keeps us all motivated—and now, the seniors who passed are supporting us in return. That’s the power of “Team” WADA!

② Member Roster Coordinator (a.k.a. Friendly First Contact!)

I also serve as the roster coordinator, which means I’m often the first person new members talk to after joining.

◆ My USMLE Journey

Right now, I’m preparing for USMLE Step 1 and slowly but steadily working toward passing it.

To be honest, I’ve always had a bit of a fear of English, so studying hasn’t always been easy or fun.
But what keeps me going is the support and motivation I get from my peers and the senior members of Team WADA who work so hard. Being part of this team makes me feel like, “Maybe I can do this too.”

◆ My Goals as Vice Representative

As a student member, I want to share a simple but powerful message:
Even if you think “I’m not good at English” or “Going abroad is too hard for me”, you still have the chance to chase your dreams.

Especially for students like me—raised in Japan and a little unsure about our English—I want to create spaces where we can learn together, talk about what clinical training abroad is really like, and help each other take that crucial first step.

I hope this year will be one where more students realize that even English beginners can aim for careers abroad!
